Refinishing Furniture

Whoever owned this table before us decided to glue a piece of felt to it, why you ask? Only they know.

Most men get scared when they hear someone talking about refinishing furniture, don’t turn and run, you can do it.  The biggest parts involved with renewing that long-lost side-table hiding under that fabric cloak is hard work and knowledge, two things needed for everything worth having.  Once the piece of furniture has been chosen for it’s new life, choose which kind of stain and the color your piece will be reinvented with.  Some key points in choosing the kind of stain include how green the family is, how bold the piece is going to be and the effect of the piece will have on others.  There are stains that cut deep in the wood, sit on top of woods, and stains that don’t hurt the

Stripping the stains and finishes off the wood is achieved when you apply a large amount of stripper on the wood, let the stripper do the work, not you.  Wipe it down clean and sand it smooth, going with the grain of the wood (with the direction of the lines in the wood).  After the piece has dried and is looking o-so good, apply a sanding sealer to all substrates to lock it down.  A light sanding will be needed after the sealer

The piece is now complete and all it took was some time.  The stripping, sanding, and staining can get done in one day.  Each layer of clear coat can be sanded and applied in a few hours.  This project can be easy if you let it, so get the right tools and understand what you’re doing.  Checkout the Furniture Renewed blog linked at the bottom of this article to get a 100% understanding of how easy refinishing can be.
